Robin Williams helped his young “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” co-star score a prom date. Together with Ben Stiller, the late actor filmed a video for Skyler Gisondo so he could ask a girl in their school function.

The video was shared on YouTube on May, but it is just recently that Gisondo opened up to the Hollywood Reporter how he got his two idols to help him win a prom date. And according to the 18-year-old actor, the older actors didn’t just help out, they practically planned the whole thing.

Always eager to help, Williams was shooting ideas after another to Gisondo all morning. “He was saying, ‘Can I say this? Would it be appropriate to say this?’ You’re Robin Williams. You can say whatever you want!” Gisondo said.

The video, filmed while the trio were shooting the “Night at the Museum” sequel, then turned out to be an elaborate nearly-three-minute clip after Williams and Stiller pitched in their ideas. Williams is seen in the video getting into different characters, convincing the girl Hillary to go out with Gisondo.

“I realised that was the most awesome three minutes of my life and I’ve accepted it will go downhill from there,” he said of the video’s shoot. With a star-studded proposal as such, it was unsurprising that Hillary said yes.

“Robin was this bottomless reservoir of kindness and hilarity,” Gisondo recalled of the beloved actor, who died in August of suicide. “It was just so special to work so closely with this guy whose movies I’ve grown up with and watch his preparedness and his kindness.”

Gisondo plays Stiller’s son in the second sequel of the film, taking the role held by actor Cherry in the first two films. Stiller and Williams reprised their roles as the security guard Larry Daley and the musesum fixture Theodore Roosevelt respectively.

“Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” was released on Friday. It also stars Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais, Dan Stevens and Australian actress Rebel Wilson.
