Forget what you know of lavish celebrations because Auburn Deputy Mayor Salim Mehajer's wedding to his girlfriend Aysha has just tipped the scales to their favour -- much to the annoyance of his neighbours. In what the groom himself refers to as "Australia's best wedding," the event involved four helicopters, a fleet of luxury cars and bikes, and a lot of dancing on closed streets.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports the celebration started with Mehajer landing his helicopter at a local park with his entourage and walking on a red carpet toward a fleet of cars estimated to be worth AU$50 million and driving to his brand new home in Frances Street, Lidcombe, where his bride was waiting. The night before, residents of Frances Street were informed in a letterbox drop that the street would be closed and that any car parked on the road would be towed.

The police said they were not officially involved in Mehajer's wedding and were only at the site to prevent the large crowd from getting out of control -- especially when the couple's guests started partying and dancing on the street. At its peak, the event saw a jet flying over with sign announcing the nuptials and the banging of huge drums. "This is how you do a wedding," Mehajer reportedly told the local media holding cameras.

The fanfare upset his neighbours. "I called the council and asked them why they couldn't send out a ranger but they wouldn't answer that. I check the council website and there is no approval to block the road," a resident who declined to be named told SMH.

Irene Simms, a councilor for Auburn, also said that she has received several complaints and that she is preparing a motion to question the council on how the wedding was made possible in the first place.

As reports of the grand wedding circulated online, so did copies of the pre-wedding video, which details how the couple met, the courtship stage and their engagement, according to Mamamia . As is expected of Mehajer, the video featured a lot of fancy cars and some other indications of their opulence. This is not the first time Mehajer made headlines. Sydney Morning Herald reports that in January 2013, he was convicted of negligent driving when he ran over Nhu Hua, 68, and Teyet La, 40. In October 2013, he was released on appeal, after which he took out an advertisement at the local paper featuring a photo of himself and the caption "VICTORY over negligent driving."

Despite the backlash from his neighbours, and a possible inquiry into his actions over the next weeks, Mehajer seems unfazed.

"To all the haters, *keep hating*... I work hard. ..100% LEGIT," he wrote on his Facebook page .
