Apple is expected to unveil the new Apple TV at an event on Sep. 9 in San Francisco. The fourth generation of Apple TV will reportedly arrive in October with a much higher price tag than its predecessors.

The third-gen Apple TV was originally priced at $99 (AU $138) during its launch in 2012. According to 9to5Mac , the latest version of the Apple TV will be priced below $200, with a starting price point of either $149 or $199 (AU $208 or $279). The new device will be slightly thicker and wider than the current third-gen model.

With the premium price, Apple’s next generation of Apple TV is speculated to offer improved and more sophisticated features. The substantially upgraded Apple TV will include signature features like Siri integration, a revamped remote control and a revived UI. Furthermore, the new generation will sport an App Store with a Software Development Kit for developers. The new device is supposed to be shipped with a dual core-A8 processor.

Apple also plans to bring in a cable-replacing streaming TV service that will incorporate multiple television channels at $40 (AU $56) per month. As reported by TechInsider , the new live TV service will not be introduced until 2016, as the company is yet to strike suitable deals with cable companies.

Apple reportedly plans to upgrade its current model with the software that enables the streaming service. The company will continue to sell the third-gen Apple TV as an entry level model with a price tag of $69. However, it will neither house the new Apps Store nor have Siri support.

Alongside the Apple TV, the much anticipated iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are also expected to launch on Sep. 9. The new iPhones are expected to feature a Force Touch enabled display with improved camera, more storage and a faster A9 processor.
