Apple Inc's iOS7 is the biggest change to date of the company's software since Apple disrupted the competition back in 2007. The new update will be available to users on Sept. 18. The new iOS7 may disrupt its own users with owners of older versions of Apple's iPhone before iPhone 4 left out of the update. Some users of newer models may also choose not to update for fear of heavily used apps not working properly.

For those choosing not to update to iOS7, Apple Inc has updated its App Store to prompt users of iOS devices that are not compatible with the latest version of iOS. The App Store tweak will enable devices to download the last compatible version of their chosen app.

The change was first discovered by a Reddit user and reported by The Verge. The Reddit user tried to install an app to his 2nd generation iPod Touch when he saw the prompt message.

What happens when you don't update? If you are one of the iOS users who don't want to update to the latest version of Apple's software, you won't be penalised by Apple for not downloading.

The App Store update may be reassuring for both users and app developers. Some iOS users are not that keen about updating to the latest version right away. Developers were also relieved to know that their apps will still be supported and reach all iOS users.

Although many are excited about the upcoming release of iOS7, some tech writers and developers encourage iOS users to not upgrade to iOS7 - at least not right away. iOS users are urged to exercise caution. Here are the top 5 reasons NOT to upgrade to iOS7:

1. Errors in current applications and services

The iOS7 is a major update of the iOS. Since it is the biggest change, it is expected to have growing pains, although many are hopeful these are minimal. If you download the latest version on Day 1, chances are, one of the apps you're using may not be compatible or run well on your device.

2. Strange-looking apps

Apple's iOS7 will change the way your device will look and feel. It's a radical change compared to the previous version. While some apps are compatible with iOS6 and will definitely work, many apps have been revamped to look beautiful when running on iOS7.

3. You haven't backed up your files or data.

Before upgrading to iOS7, it is mandatory that you back up your data to iCloud or iTunes when you tether your iOS devices to a PC or Mac. Of course, if you don't want to upgrade to iOS7 just yet, you will not have to worry about backing up your devices.

4. You cannot downgrade to an older version

If you do upgrade to iOS7 and find the experience does not live up to your expectations, you can no longer downgrade your device to the previous version.

5. Keep your device jailbroken.

If your device is jailbroken and you want to use whatever tweaks to apps you have installed, you will have to stick with iOS6 until jailbreak developers will successfully jailbreak iOS7. There's no definite time when a jailbreak for Apple's iOS7 will be available. You might want to stick to your jailbroken iOS6 instead.
