The Android 5.0 Lollipop was first announced in November last year and since then Motorola, Samsung, LG and HTC have rolled out Lollipop updates for their high-end smarpthones. On March 16, Sony finally began rolling out the much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

According to the official Sony Mobile blog, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be first available for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact users in the Nordic and the Baltic. In the coming days, the update will be made available to more markets and it is expected to be available for all the Xperia Z lineup devices within a time period of two weeks.

Sony states that the Android 5.0 Lollipop will be brought to the audience minimalistic appeal. The notifications and the lock screen will have a refreshed appeal. It will also bring along other feature like multiple user profiles, guest mode and support for transferring app from inbuilt storage to external microSD storage. With the arrival of Android for Work, the Xperia Z devices would offer a better ecosystem for work.

The official blog post from Sony does not reveal the actual version of Android Lollipop that has been released for the audience. According to the Xperia Blog, Sony has rolled out Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware build 23.1.A.0.690 update for Xperia Z3 with model number D6603. There is no information on the build version of Android Lollipop and the model number of Xperia Z3 Compact that is receiving the software update.

On March 5, the International Business Times had reported that Android 5.0.2 Lollipop build was spotted running on Xperia Z3. A leaked video too surfaced that showed the device running on firmware 23.1.A.0.690.

It states that the probable reason behind the delay in rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Xperia Z models is that developers have been working on fixing all the bugs and issues found on the firmware. As of this writing, the only device from Sony that has been updated with Android Lollipop is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition. The newly launched Sony Xperia M4 Aqua comes preloaded with Android 5.0 Lollipop.
