Amazon's new higher-end Kindle range may struggle with sales since previous editions have proven to be so durable, but the tech giant could change things up with a thinner than ever line-up thanks to a new rechargeable protective case.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal which cites its sources, the inclusion of a detachable case will help make the device sleeker than its previous iterations. The protective case with a built-in rechargeable battery will not only protect the Kindle from bumps and scratches, but will also help extend the device's battery life.

While the WSJ, like the rest of us, does not know if the rechargeable case will be shipped with the new Kindle or will need to be purchased separately, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has confirmed the brand new Kindle is ready to be out in the market, although he held back from revealing the release date and price of Amazon’s new product.

Heads up readers – all-new, top of the line Kindle almost ready. 8th generation. Details next week.

Amazon is also reportedly working on a new solar-powered protective case for its new range of Kindles, but this isn't expected to be released anytime soon.

In the meantime, Amazon has started offering heavy discounts on its existing range of Kindle eReaders, with the deals available exclusively for Amazon Prime members.

Amazon first released its popular Kindle in 2007, and over the next nine years, the company’s signature product saw several new iterations released including the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Voyage. However, the durability of each gadget has stopped users from buying newer models, unlike the iPhone trend. Only time will tell if the new range exceeds expectations so users are compelled to say 'take my money!'
