Australians who love to take pictures using their smartphones would be happy to know that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is landing in the Land Down Under next week. The device would cost $699.

Because of its heavy priority on the gadget being more of a shooter than a gadget for calling and texting, the S4 Zoom has been described as device that looks like a Samsung Galaxy camera glued to the back of a Galaxy S4.

The device features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB RAM and 8GB of storage, and it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. To compensate for having access to actually only 5GB due to many apps running on top of its OS, the device has a microSD card slot and several connectivity options for 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

Since camera use would drain a lot of juice, the S4 Zoom has a large 2330mAh battery for the device that has a 1.9MP front-facing shooter and a 4.3-inch qHD screen.

The camera is 16MP with 10x optical zoom, explaining the device's bulk compared to regular smartphones. It weighs 208 grammes and measures 125.5x63.5x15.4 millimetres.

Sharing images taken by the camera-phone is a lot easier because social media apps such as Instagram are hooked up. With its unique zoom ring, users could take photos and share it through MMS while talking on the S4 Zoom.

Tyler McGee, Samsung Australia vice president for telecommunications, described the S4 Zoom as "a device that is engineered to offer flexibility and give people a wide range of capabilities in a smartphone."
