2016 on Australian television: Fresh TV shows you should be binge-watching this year

2015 witnessed the ever-swelling hold of the television series on audiences all over the globe with some outstanding shows like “The Walking Dead,” “Game of Thrones” and “NCIS” to name a few. However, 2016 is set to take the level a notch higher with another batch of shows based on fresh concepts.
This year, the TV networks are up for a change and the heavy competition from Netflix is fuelling the changes to a great extent. The networks have now retorted to renew their shows in order to gain maximum viewership and are not leaving any stone unturned when it comes to the revival of the shows.
NBC is set to revive its most-watched crime drama show “The Blacklist,” while, PBS will bring back its drama period drama show, “Downtown Abbey.” Arguably the biggest TV network, Fox is also renewing its popular show, “Empire.”
Netflix has been on a high note ever since it started renewing and making TV shows. It has reaped maximum benefits with its famous TV series with the likes of “House of Cards,” “Orange Is The New Black,” “Bloodline” and “Master of None.”
Crime thrillers never go out of trend and this year, audiences will get to witness a surge in the number of crime shows on TV. The most awaited show in this genre is “Prison Break” which is making a comeback with its fifth season.
On the contrary, news on some of the most iconic shows being taken off air has dismayed the binge-watchers. It was reported that in the last quarter of 2015, “The Simpsons” will be taken off air on its 30th anniversary. Additionally, “Big Bang Theory” too is set to end soon.
