Bi-lingual actor Anthony Mendez received the lone nomination for hit comedy series, “Jane The Virgin,” in the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards. Cast as the show’s narrator, he snagged the nod for the “Outstanding Narrator” category. He says he is in shock but determined to represent the entire show's cast and crew.

After Gina Rodriguez won a the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series earlier this year, hopes were high for even more nominations for “Jane The Virgin” in this year’s Emmys. Rodriguez plays the main character Jane Gloriana Villanueva, and the CW launched a very high profile campaign to get her and the show some nominations for the prestigious awards ceremony.

The whole buzz around the show is one of the reasons why Mendez told Entertainment Weekly that his nomination is bittersweet. While he is in shock for having been nominated, he also knows that expectations were high for the rest of the cast and the show itself.

“I hope that my nomination is reflective of the show overall. I’m going to represent for everybody,” he said. He also revealed that other members of the cast and crew have reached out and tweeted him to congratulate him on the nomination. He says that he is determined to hold the flag high for the show even if he is the only representative.

Mendez admits that many people don’t even know that there is a category for narrators in the Emmys. “They don’t even announce this category and I’d say that 99.9 percent of people don’t even know this category exists,” he said.

When asked about doing an on-screen cameo on “Jane The Virgin,” Mendez declares that he does not want that to happen in the upcoming second season. He explains that he’s not ungrateful for the opportunity to show off his acting chops. However, he knows that revealing the narrator’s identity is being held as one of the major series-ending surprises. Naturally, he says that he does not hope that the series will end only after the second season.

The 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 20, at 8:00 pm ET on FOX. Meanwhle, "Jane The Virgin" returns on October 19 on the CW.
