Smartphones are becoming ultra-thin and the bezel count is becoming lesser as time progresses. But here is a smartphone named "Sharp Aquos Crystal" that comes with edge-less display. Meaning, the gap encircling the periphery of the display is almost non-existent that it makes the display look as though it extends to the edges. Even though Sharp is not the first name that comes to mind when talking about smartphones, the new Aquos Crystal is making waves with its edge-less, bezel-free display. Moreover, the device is not priced over-the-top, thus making it more appealing.

The Sharp Aquos Crystal comes with slim-bezel on a plastic body that guarantees solid construction. The handset features a 5.0-inch TFT display complemented by 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution and 294 ppi pixel density. This phone has an impressive screen-to-size ratio of 78.26 percent, whereas a vast majority of flagships clock only 70 percent, says Phone Arena. It is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz and backed by 1.5 GB of RAM. The phone runs on Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) OS and hence there is no custom UI interference to mess with the stock Android experience. Furthermore, it comes equipped with Li-Ion 2040 mAh battery unit.

When it comes to camera configuration, the handset sports an 8 MP rear-facing unit with LED flash and a 1.2 MP selfie snapper at the front. The device offers 8 GB of in-built storage space and microSD card for expansion up to 128 GB. The phone provides 4G LTE support, however it does not support NFC. Speaking of size, the Aquos Crystal handset is 0.39-inch thick and weighs 141 g.

To attain the edge-less display, Sharp has re-located the front-facing camera unit, light/proximity sensor and the notification light to the bottom of the display. Plus, there is no earpiece speaker in this handset and hence the call quality is quite disappointing. Alternatively, it uses a direct wave receiver that vibrates the entire screen to produce sound. This is similar to the bone conduction technology used in few other handsets.

As far as the price goes, the Sharp Aquos Crystal can be purchased for $149.99 from Boost Mobile as a prepaid device. Going by the first look, this handset can give strong competition to Motorola Moto G and others. Interested readers should check out the killer images from Phone Arena.
