Sony has officially released its much-awaited motion control device for the Playstation 3, the Playstation Move. The magic-wand-like device will costs $99 for users without the accompanying Playstation Eye.

The controller is a Bluetooth device that has a LED orb at the top. The gadget utilizes rate sensors, accelerometers and inertial sensors for determining rotation and motion as you wave around the device.

The LED ball is used by the accompanying Playstation Eye to track the movement, position, and depth of the controller within a playing area. This means that the Playstation Move doesn't work well in brightly lit places.

The Playstation Move comes out two months earlier than Microsoft's Kinect controller. Nintendo, however, has offered a motion control device since the Wii was released in late 2006.
