The hit first-person indie horror, “The Vanishing of Ethan Carter,” was first launched in 2014. The game received high praise for its fully rendered and highly detailed open-world and story, and it has since enthralled players into delving deeper into the game. Over a year since its release, the game has re-released into Steam with a remastered title dubbed “The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux.”

Sony’s PlayStation 4 was the first to receive the remastered edition of the indie horror game back in July this year. Just recently, Valve has released “The Vanishing of Ethan Varter Redux” on the Steam market as a free upgrade to the core game, PCGamer reports. Unlike the base game which was developed using Unreal Engine 3, the remaster was built from the beginning to the end with Unreal Engine 4.

Aside from the updated graphics, the remaster is also set to receive a couple of new features. Players now have the ability to travel back to earlier areas in the game. This addresses previous fan feedback which claimed that it was tiresome to manually backtrack in the game to pick up some missed items that further compliment the game’s story.

Another addition to the remaster is a new save system that allows the game to remember every action players have done before leaving the title. Before the remaster, players had to go through a checkpoint system that would set players back to the beginning of each section upon continuing a game.

However, the remaster will still not include support for DirectX 12. Players could still see DirectX 12 support though in future updates as developer The Astronauts expressed their willingness to add this to the game.

"The current version of UE4 has an experimental support for DX12, and it really is experimental and thus too risky for a public release for us," Creative Director Adrian Chmielarz said on the official blog of The Astronauts. He added that the feature will be included in the game, as soon as DirectX 12 gets a final release.
