The competitive multiplayer component of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" dubbed "Metal Gear Online" has had its fair share of updates since its release. Now, an upcoming update has been announced, and it brings back a beloved melee weapon.

In the post on the official website of Konami, the developer announced that it is bringing back the knife to the multiplayer mode of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," "Metal Gear Online." The weapon has been a much-requested addition by fans since it was featured in the previous iterations of "Metal Gear Online."

No exact launch date has been announced for the update so far. However, when it hits, the knife will be available to all three classes, including the Attackers class in the CLOAK AND DAGGER mission.

When the knife returns, the same mechanic in previous "Metal Gear Online" iterations will be applied. This means that veterans of the multiplayer will have no problem adjusting to the returning weapon. Pressing the corresponding button of the knife in short and rapid successions will start a combo attack. A long press will trigger a stab action which, when successful, will instantly kill an enemy.

The game designers also noted details in the Buddy System. First, players will be able to check out the current status of their buddy through different icons mid-game. This will help them know if their buddy is in need of aid.

Additionally, lengthened gaming periods will charge up the buddy gauge, which when full will allow the Wormhole Generator. This allows the player to instantly warp to the location of their buddy. The buddy system will also affect interrogations.

In other news, iDigitaltimes previously reported that "Metal Gear Online" will be getting a DLC soon. Not much has been revealed about the DLC, but it will bring new maps and modes.
