Apple has been in constant battle against Android for user market share. Throughout the years, Android has gained significant ground challenging Apple's position and offerings. At the last Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple has made it clear it sees the future to be more about competing against Android. Nonetheless, Apple CEO Tim Cook believes the company is well ahead of Google and its Android operating system.

Despite the number of products under Apple's belt, the company has been most identified with the iPhone. According to Business Insider, it is the iPhone company. A great part of the company's revenue come from iPhone sales including other products related to it. It also defines most of what the company tries to put out especially its operating system. Analysts point out the importance and influence of the iPhone throughout the years saying that consumers will likely own a unit in one way or another.

However, this does not change the fact that Apple remains in an uncertain position. Android has been challenging that spot by releasing more variants and cheaper hardware. Despite the iPhone having more premium features than some Android phones, price still affects the decision of many consumers. Analysts doubt if the iOS and iPhone can truly dominate because most of Apple's growth will likely stem from upgrades or replacements from existing iPhone clients. The high end or premium market is reportedly saturated offering limited room for growth. Tim Cook thinks otherwise. According to the Apple head:

"Over 130 million customers who bought an iOS device in the past 12 months were buying their first Apple device," Cook explained during the WWDC prior to discussing the iOS 8.

"Many of these customers were switchers from Android. They had bought an Android phone - by mistake. Then had sought a better experience ... And a better life. And decided to check out iPhone and iOS."

"Nearly half of our customers in China in the past six months switch from Android to iPhone. This is incredible." Cook added. It is clear from Cook's statement that the company will be pushing for iPhone and iPad's growth. The company is not done yet. Cook also added that there is a 97% satisfaction rate among iPhone users at the moment.

In a report by CNET, a developer discovered a split screen feature that can put iOS 8 head to head further with Google's Android. According to the report, the upcoming iOS 8 may feature a side-by-side app support. App developer Steve Troughton-Smith said in his tweet that Apple's iOS 8 development kit features a code that allows people to open several apps at the same time via the display. The developer also noted that the apps can be viewed "one-quarter size, one-half size, or three-quarter size."
