Within a month since its release, “Super Mario Maker” has reportedly reached a new milestone with 1 million course uploads. Nintendo released a whole new take on one of its most iconic series with “Super Mario Maker.” The side scroller platform game allowed Mario fans to play, and most especially create their own custom levels in the game.

The gaming giant has posted a video on its Japanese Twitter account to commemorate the new achievement of “Super Mario Maker,” as seen on a NeoGaf thread. The video showcases some of the creative user-made stages from the game.

One of the strong points of the level-designer is the wide array of items players can use to create stages. The options range from the early stages of Mario starting from the original “Super Mario Bros” released in 1985, to the more recent “New Super Mario Bros.” released for more recent consoles. As players progress, they get to access a lot more tools for level-designing.

Aside from that, players can also use their amiiboes within the game. Certain amiiboes like Olimar can be used in “Super Mario Maker” to allow the players to use Pikmin instead of Mario when playing the game.

Despite its ongoing success, “Super Mario Maker” wasn’t initially intended for public consumption, Polygon reports. It began as a simple tool for Nintendo’s internal development team when they are tasked to create a level for the game. It was only until the latter part of the development that Nintendo realised that fans would love to be given the opportunity to design their own stages.

"We think this is a game that will showcase people's sense of imagination, seeing the courses made by [those folks] made us realize it had much more potential than even we imagined." Said executive officer of Nintendo’s entertainment analysis and development division to Polygon.
