Two of the most timeless space combat games ever made, "Star Wars: X-Wing" and "Star Wars: Tie Fighter," developed by LucasArts, have finally been re-released and are available for sale at Good Old Games website. Finally, both the entire games can be downloaded with all it's expansion packs and full multiplayer capability.

The Star Wars universe is split into the Light and Dark side of the force with the Rebel Alliance and Empire fighting for the respective sides. In X-Wing, the player gets to play a Rebel pilot and an Empire pilot in Tie Fighter. The battle for supremacy wages all across the galaxy where players get to experience first-hand, the feeling of being in the midst of a true space battle. With the distinctive ship design staying true to the original saga, any fan of the trilogy will find themselves immersed into the galactic politics, war of a cosmic scale and more lasers.

What would truly inspire the later generation of graphics-attuned gamers, and quite possibly jerk a tear from the veterans is one of the finest game mechanics in video games: Energy Management. This unique feature lets the player distribute energy across its various systems like laser weapons, shields or engines -- each affecting the experience of space combat. At the end of several hundreds of hours of space combat, the player would feel like a part of Rebel or Imperial army, each with their distinct fighting styles and ships in their respective games.

These two games go on to make it's mark on the space combat genre -- a feat not replicated till the present day. Fans of the space combat genre love these games for their simplicity, yet the number of elements the player encounters by staying true to the core of the game's experience- laser battles across space.

The sheer intensity and speed of inter-space combat requires the player to focus their attention during every moment in the game -- leading to a lot of mistakes and retries -- but always pushing the player to their limits. Intuitive mission design and fast paced combat carries over it's appeal till the present day.

Special downloadable versions of both X-Wing and Tie Fighter are available on Good Old Games. For a standard price, it already includes the special editions of the games -- with higher resolutions and improved sound, as well all of both games' expansions. Also, these editions of the games will run on a modern PC without the need to fumble with DOS.
