When John Boyega was cast in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” fans speculated he would play as a Jedi based on reports he was seen practicing with a lightsaber at Pinewood. Since he’s been confirmed to play as the Stormtrooper Finn, fans have wondered again whether he will wield a lightsaber at all in the film. According to Making Star Wars, Finn will eventually find the use of the lightsaber handy when it comes to fighting off the enemies.

According to Making Star Wars, at some point in the film Finn would come in possession of not just any lightsaber but that of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber. The Jedi relic would initially be with Princess Leia after Maz Kabata (Lupita Nyong’o) hands it to her so she in turn could give it to Rey. Maz then tells Leia to give the lightsaber to Finn so he could hand the weapon over to Rey (Daisy Ridley).

Finn reportedly doesn’t just hold on to the lightsaber for safekeeping until Rey gets it. Instead, according to writer Jason Ward, he immediately uses it to fight off the enemies. He eventually activated the weapon and found it very handy especially during his battle with Kylo Ren at the end of the film. But this scene in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” wouldn’t be the only time Finn gets to wield the lightsaber.

“He gets in a little practice as he, Han Solo, Chewbacca and his new best friend Rey sneak around the First Order fortress planting charges,” Ward said.

There are reportedly a lot of scenes in “Star Wars: the Force Awakens” where Finn gets to use the lightsaber killing off Stormtroopers. He reportedly also used the weapon to defeat the Stormtroopers defending the “evil castle.”

“He uses it against Stormtroopers during the First Order Fortress attack. He also uses the lightsaber to cut through some things to dismantle the shield protecting the First Order base,” Ward revealed.

According to the Dork Side of the Force, Finn using Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber brings about numerous speculations including the chances that he could be Force sensitive. It reportedly also brings to question whether he could be Luke’s son from a different woman. Regardless, fans will eventually know the answer when "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" comes out on Dec. 18, 2015.
