Sony Mobile launches a new smartphone every six months and it seems the company is in no mood to take a break. The Xperia XZ has just hit the shelves and now the company is already reportedly developing the Sony Xperia X2 flagship. Rumour mills have started rolling again and the hype is building up.

It is very difficult to predict what Sony will name its next flagship though tech enthusiasts believe it will be called the Sony Xperia X2. It is very difficult to predict Sony’s naming system. The company revealed at the MWC 2016 that it has done away with the Z series and the X series is now the future, writes Pocket-lint.

The Sony Xperia XZ was announced at the IFA 2016 and Sony claimed that the smartphone sat above the XA, XA Ultra, X Compact, X and X Performance models. The Sony Xperia X2 could be announced at the CES 2017 scheduled to be held from Jan. 5-8. However, most believe that the handset is more likely to be unveiled at the MWC 2017 fro Feb. 27 to March 1.

The Xperia Blog spotted a GFXBench listing in July that revealed a model number F8331. Many believe that the model number is that of the Sony Xperia X2. If the prediction turns out to be true, the Xperia X2 could sport a 5.1-inch 1080p screen, Snapdragon 820 processor, 21MP rear camera, 12MP front-facing and a powerful 3GB RAM.

There are also rumours that the Sony Xperia X2 smartphone’s camera will have the 4K video recording capability, a feature in another of Sony’s handset, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. For faster data transfers and rapid charging, the much talked about USB Type-C ports will also be included in the handset.

The Sony Xperia X2 is expected to sport a sleeker and upgraded chassis and will have a huge display and curved display. According to Mobile & Apps, the Sony flagship could be priced anywhere from US$550 (AU$720) to US$650 (AU$850). The smartphone would belong to the high-end device segment, better than the Xperia Z5 Premium.
