Samsung is poised to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for all its recent major smartphones like Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 3 in the near future. However, new information coming directly from Samsung Finland claims that the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S4 are also in line to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

GSMArena claims that Samsung Finland's official support page reveals that the Galaxy Note 2, the phablet which arrived in the market in September 2012 is all set to receive the most recent Android update. By this, all the Galaxy Note phablets excluding the original handset that came out in 2011 will be upgraded to the latest Android iteration.

The source page also reveals shows that the South Korean tech giant is interested in rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to other fairly older handsets too. The Galaxy S5 Mini and the Galaxy S4 are also listed along with the new Galaxy Alpha smartphone. As of this writing, Samsung Finland has not disclosed as to when these handsets are going to receive the new Android build.

PhoneArena claims that usually latest Android builds are not released by manufacturers to devices that are more than two years old. However, the Galaxy Note 2 that came out in September 2012 seems to be an exception here. GSMArena says that such a move from Samsung does spark a lot of questions but since the news is coming from a reliable source, it cannot be dismissed.

The only Samsung device that is currently running on the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS is the Galaxy S5. Speculations have it that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge will be directly updated to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop by skipping the 5.0 Lollipop update. In the U.S., update roll outs are controlled by carriers who will first test them extensively and then provide them to its users, says Phandroid. So, Samsung users in the U.S. will have to wait longer to receive update information from reliable sources.
