The environmental and cultural attractions of central western New South Wales were in the planning to boost number of tourists towards them and are now gaining impetus.

According to ABC Online, the Macquarie Riversmart program intends to develop an eco-cultural tourist trail from the Burrendong Dam to Macquarie Marshes.

The group was agreed to be given a sum of $1,000 along with meeting rooms and staff supports by the Wellington Shire Council to help the advancement of the idea.

A Macquarie Riversmart spokesperson Jenny Quealey told ABC Online that the group needs the support of Dubbo, Warren and Narromine councils.

She added that the focus will be brought back to the Macquarie River which helps everyone with the leadership of those groups, the councils and others to truly get the proper type of thinking and care for the river itself.

Jenny Quealey stated that the attainment of Wellington Shire on board is the pitch to the success of the project.

She also said that this region has some implausible assets, but the level of awareness about them in terms of tourism is low and the region is unlikely to obtain its fair share of the tourism dollar, so a tourism trail could be developed with a little bit of product boost, a little bit of sense, and a little bit of teamwork.
