Despite an impressive showing last year in Gamescom 2014, there hasn’t been much news about top-down shooter “Alienation,” until now. Developed by Housemarque Games, “Alienation” is a top-down shooter that has players blasting aliens away, whether its by themselves or with three more friends, and now some pre-alpha footage has been released to showcase the multiplayer action of “Alienation.”

Revealed by Gamespot, the footage showcases a three-player cooperative session, which looks incredibly similar to “Dead Nation,” another top-down shooter from Housemarque Games. The developer has since stated that “Alienation” is a spiritual successor to “Dead Nation,” which came out on the PlayStation 3 and had players shooting down zombies, whereas “Alienation” has players taking on aliens.

The footage below is reportedly a work in progress, so it’s still far from the final product. Still, one can be impressed by the fast-paced action that can be seen in the video, and the numerous weapon types shown in the game look very fun to use. “Alienation” will also have a drop-in and dropout multiplayer mode, so it won’t be troublesome to have friends start playing the game right away.

A post from the PlayStation Blog also revealed more details about the game along with a couple of screenshots that are reportedly still a work in progress like the multiplayer footage. The game will apparently require players to be very tactical with their actions instead of just shooting first and never asking questions.

Gamers can also expect a wide variety of alien enemies. These can range from humanoid-looking soldiers to gigantic alien beasts of destruction; hence the emphasis on tactical manoeuvres for the game.

Housemarque has made their name based on these types of games. Aside from “Dead Nation” for PS3, the developer has also worked on the critically acclaimed title “Resogun,” which many consider as one of the most addictive and challenging games currently out for the PlayStation 4.

As of now, there is no definitive release date for “Alienation” aside from the very vague 2015 given by the creators. “Alienation” is a PlayStation 4 exclusive shooter and will hopefully be out sometime this year.
