With the release of “Resident Evil HD Remaster” earlier this year, Capcom is yet again bringing an old game to new heights. Yesterday, Capcom confirmed via its Youtube channel that it is going to remake “Resident Evil 2.”

First released in 1998, “Resident Evil 2” has been finding support within Capcom last month. The company even asked fans for their thoughts on a “Resident Evil 2” remake, to which the fans responded positively. Yoshiaki Hirabayashi will be the producer of the project, as it was he who presented the remake to Capcom last month.

In the video seen below, Hirabayashi thanks fans for their support on the remake project. He then confirmed that Capcom has approved the project.

Hirabayashi added that Capcom will consider the fans' request in developing the remake, and will continue to update fans about the progress of the project. However, the company is yet to specify which platforms the game will be released to, as well as the timeframe of the release.

There won’t be any news regarding Resident Evil 2's remake for a while, said Hirabayashi. But fans of the series shouldn’t be too disappointed as the remake of 2002’s “Resident Evil 0,” will launch worldwide next year.

Capcom has been keen on developing remakes since the success of “Resident Evil HD Remaster” in January, which sold more than 1 million copies worldwide as of April. With this, fans can assume that other remakes may come as well.

Despite the positive feedback, fans are still longing for the much-awaited sequel to the franchise, “Resident Evil 7.” In a report by Christian Post, “Resident Evil 7” is set for a fall release this year. Capcom is yet to release an update regarding the game.
