Just days after mother and daughter Raquel and Charice Pempengco admitted being lesbians, another lesbian row hit Manila over the weekend after a popular cartoonist resigned. Pol Medina Jr., author of the 25-year Pugad Baboy (Pig Sty) cartoon in the Philippine Daily Inquirer quit after nuns from St Scholastica's College protested his strip that says the school condones lesbianism among its all-female students.

Australian Stock Market Report – Midday 6/7/13

The Australian sharemarket is sliding for the third straight day, with the ASX200 Index down by close to 1 per cent at lunch. This is adding to the back to back 1 per cent falls on Wednesday and Thursday. Investors are feeling somewhat jittery ahead of a non-farm payrolls report out later tonight, in addition to the closure of the Aussie market on Monday due to a public holiday.

In US economic news, initial jobless claims fell by 6,500 to 346,000 in the final week of May. Net financial wealth grew by $3 trillion to $70.3 trillion - the biggest quarterly increase in 14-years. Rising stock prices and home pushed net household wealth to a fresh record high. US ICSC chain store sales rose by 3.2pct in May compared with a year ago.
