The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has charged a 38-year-old East Sydney man and a 21-year-old Bombaderry man for allegedly trafficking approximately 50 kilograms of methamphetamines (ICE). The two men are scheduled to in Sydney Central Local Court today .

Court records showed that on 17 March 2011, Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers in the inner Eastern Suburbs, observed the 38 year old man place a number of bags in the boot of a vehicle.

AFP officers observed the man meet up with the 21-year-old man. The vehicle was seen to drive to Sydney Domestic Airport then to a Post Office in Kensington.

The AFP arrested the 38-year-old man in the Kensington Post Office and the 21-year-old man was arrested when AFP officers stopped the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle by AFP officers found three bags containing approximately 50kilograms of ICE. The 21-year-old was also allegedly found in possession of a loaded handgun.

Both men have been charged with trafficking commercial quantities of controlled drugs, contrary to Section 302.0 Criminal Code Act 1995.

The maximum penalty for this offence is life imprisonment and/or a $825,000.00 fine.

Also in relation to this investigation the 21-year-old man was charged with the following:

* Offence of unauthorised possession or use of firearms generally. S.7A Firearms Act 1996 (NSW).

* Possess ammunition without permit. S.65 (3) Firearms Act 1996 (NSW).

* General requirement safe keeping of firearms. S.39 Firearms Act 1996 (NSW).

The maximum penalty for these offences is 5 years imprisonment.
