PayPal account can be dropped by eBay Aussie sellers
The sellers of eBay Australia will not have to offer PayPal as an obligatory payment mechanism subsequent to the involvement of Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC).
eBay made two major moves two years back: it tried to command sellers to offer PayPal and obligated for PayPal to be the only platform for electronic payment of ebay.com.au.
The second plan drew the righteous anger of sellers, buyers, the ACCC and also the Reserve Bank, but the first plan went through basically without dispute.
It is subsidiary since the ACCC has been doing investigation regarding complaints that eBay may have betrothed in an act that could flout the Trade Practices Act by coercing sellers to offer PayPal.
eBay has made an announcement that sellers are free to choose at least one of three payment methods offered which are PayPal, of course, Paymate and merchant credit cards, put into effect from July 14 onwards.
There will not be any changes to other modes of payment currently allowed like cash upon delivery.
According to The Australian, ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel stated that eBay made the changes as it became conscious of its potential to breach the Trade Practices Act.
There are other changes that eBay plans to make on its website.
A local classifieds listing format and a new basic store fee listing for music and books will be introduced for individual sellers on July 8.
