Hollywood actor Owen Wilson has for the first time spoken about his father’s, Robert A. Wilson, ongoing struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.

“You just have to do your best to deal with it,” the “Midnight in Paris” actor said while speaking about his father’s progressive mental deterioration. The actor spoke about his dad's illness in an interview with Dallas Morning News, published on Sunday.

“It’s one of those things where if somebody had said 10 years ago, when my dad and I were joking around, having a putting match, that this is the position your dad’s going to be in, where he basically needs 24-hour care, you’d think, ‘Gosh, I won’t be able to handle that. That’s just not possible,” the actor told the publication.

But the actor feels that when such a grave situation arises in life, a person has no choice “but to accept it.” However, at this difficult time too, Wilson is grateful for a couple of things, such as his father spending some quality time at home and being taken care by people who really love him.

The senior Wilson was a great influence on Wilson and his brothers during their growing-up years. When he was healthier, senior Wilson was a jovial person who loved to joke around and make people happy. The 46-year-old actor also believes that his dad's spirit has gotten “carried on through me, the way I like to joke around.”

The actor also talked about his new movie, “No Escape,” where he plays a father trying his best to keep his family safe during difficult times. After working in the movie, Wilson said he can relate to the anxiety that his father felt when he and his brothers were growing up. “That was very relatable, something I could imagine,” the actor said while speaking about his role.

“No Escape” hits theaters on Aug. 26.
