NBN scrapping plan by Abbott slammed
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd stated that the plans of Abbott to scrap off national broadband network (NBN) will drag Australia "back to a horse and cart past".
Tony Abott, the Opposition Leader, said in his budget reply last week that the alliance would cancel the NBN if elected.
The NBN structuring has already been started in Tasmania, with Midway Point, Scottsdale and Smithton to be connected to the high-speed network from July onwards.
On Wednesday, the broadband plans pricing by Primus was announced in three towns.
Tony Abbott was challenged by the Tasmanian Liberals who threw their support for the plan of the federal government.
The Prime Minister stated that NBN was a significant infrastructure program during a community cabinet meeting in Burnie, northwest Tasmania.
He frankly voiced out during the meeting held on Wednesday that the broadband in Australia is rearward and over-costly. It is slow and more costly compared to the broadband available in most of the competitor economies.
He added that the opposition's threat to scrap NBN would be ruinous for Australia.
Stephen Conroy, the Communications Minister, stated that the NBN benefits Tasmania in specific. He also said that Tasmania has the slowest and most pricey broadband compared to any other places in the country, which is why Tasmania was started off with the NBN structuring plan first.
