Rumours were a bound on the internet about Microsoft acquiring Mojang, the creators of Minecraft. For many weeks news was doing the rounds about Minecraft and the Microsoft acquisition. Nobody was sure if this was true. This is the most popular and sought after game by gamers. The expensive game could become the property of Microsoft with the official announcement made by the tech giant Redmond.

Microsoft will acquire the company for $2.5 billion. So far Microsoft was quite regarding this deal. However, Reuters reported that the deal could come through today. Mojang created the game Minecraft that is a super hit among gamers. It is available on all platforms like the iOS, Android, game consoles and the desktop. The game was not available on the Windows Phone.

According to research conducted by IDC Windows, phones has only 2.5 per cent of the smartphone market. The main reason for this is because developers refuse to develop apps for the Windows Phone ignoring it and hampering its growth. Minecraft is the top paid app both on the Apple as well as the Google Android platforms.

Microsoft has refrained from making any statements regarding the acquisition or the number of phone that they have sold. But this deal could be crucial for Microsoft.

Dave Bisceglia the CEO of Independent game studio Tap Lab said that Microsoft is looking to benefit from Minecraft as it has become a cultural phenomenon. He also opined that the game was top grossing on the iOS and if Microsoft could get this game on their platform it could boost the sales of their devices to Minecraft fans.

Minecraft was created by a team of 40 members in 2009 for the personal computer and sold 54 million copies with 40 per cent of download on smartphones and tablets.

The maker of Minecraft Markus Persson known for his outspoken nature said that the game was not worth developing for the Windows Phone because of its small shares in the market. The irony of this statement is that if the deal goes through Markus would have to eat the very word he spoke.

For now nothing can be predicted until the deal goes through and Microsoft comes out with a statement.
