With last week’s release of “Final Fantasy: Record Keeper,” along with the announcement of “Final Fantasy XI” getting a mobile release, it seems to be a good time to be a mobile gamer. Aside from the two aforementioned titles, game publisher Square Enix is also working on the upcoming “Mevius Final Fantasy” and has now given fans battle tips to prepare for the game’s upcoming Japanese release.

The game’s battle system is focuses heavily on four distinct elements; fire, water, wind and earth. As players attack enemies, they drop elemental orbs that can then fill up the player’s element meter. Once full, players can unleash devastating special attacks depending on what element was filled.

Siliconera notes that aside from element absorption, players will also be able to use ability cards after certain requirements are met. From what can be seen so far, it appears that these cards work mostly as a means of summoning great spirits to attack various enemies, which has been a staple in the “Final Fantasy” series.

These spirits will probably leave a smile on many a “Final Fantasy” fan, as the cards feature a number of classic spirits from various games. Shiva, the Ice Goddess returns and fans can even summon an Onion Knight and an adorable fat Chocobo.

Each ability card obviously comes with a different ability, so the Onion Knight uses his Earth Sword for offensive capabilities, but he also increases the player’s Health Points or HP. That being said each card comes with a cost for using it, with Shiva needing six water elements to be used. The fat Chocobo is even more costly, as once it has been used, it cannot be used again for another eight turns, so fans should be careful.

“Mevius Final Fantasy” will launch in Japan, sometime on Spring 2015. This mobile RPG currently has no Western release date, though Pocket Gamer is hoping Square Enix has plans to bring the title here. Given that “Final Fantasy: Record Keeper” managed to get a Western release, it might not be impossible for “Mevius Final Fanatsy” to do the same thing, but only time will tell.
