A laser treatment procedure known as Lumineyes can instantly make brown eyes blue in just 20 seconds.

The procedure was created by Dr Gregg Homer, a doctor from Stromo Medical, which is a clinical equipment company in California. He claimed that his Lumineyes can possibly replace the colorful contact lenses in the market.

For a permanent eye treatment, Dr Homer claimed that the operation will cost £3,000. The treatment could also be available in countries outside the US after 18 months – only if clinical trials will be finalized soon.

How Does Lumineyes Work?

Lumineyes is the process of removing the melanin on the upper layer of the iris which gives brown colored eyes.

Melanin is a dark pigmentation that provides color to skin, eyes, and hair. The more the melanin, the darker the color.

But in this case, melanin in darker eye colors is usually found on the top layer of the iris. On the other hand, for those with light colored eyes like blue and green, melanin is found underneath the iris

Therefore, when the upper layer of the iris is removed, the eye color will become lighter.

The procedure is done in 20 seconds but to get the full effects, you must wait for up to 2 to 3 weeks.

Lumineyes and Contact Lenses

Unlike contact lenses, Lumineyes is a permanent procedure. That means, when you have it done there’s no way to grow back your melanin or replace it to bring back the original color of your eyes.

If contact lenses are just being used for vanity, it is suggested to get Lumineyes instead. The price of the treatment is reasonable for a permanent effect.

Otherwise, it is still best to use your contacts if you are correcting your eyesight.

But it is a common knowledge to everyone that since contact lenses are used individually, the users should be more responsible. If not used correctly, eye damages can happen and even worse, it can lead to blindness.
