Legacy Sun ditched by Tasmanian Police Department
In an attempt to transform its backdated IT systems, the Tasmanian Department of Police and Emergency Management will be upgrading its legacy SUN Infrastructure and Solaris Software before long.
Sun Microsystems SPARC hardware is used by the Department which runs the operating system of Solaris 8 and uses the UniVerse RDMS with MQ Series to host its critical production applications and core data.
The upgrade will perceive four SUN SPARC Servers altered out for the hardware of Oracle SUN, while the Solaris 10 will be the upgraded version of Solaris 8.
The Sun StorageTek 6140 SAN infrastructure that is currently available will also be upgraded to a latest SAN platform. Currently, the sizes of data volume for the existing deployment are around 200GB for every full backup.
The departmental applications that currently exist were used for 20 years and have an enormous 35,000 lines of C source code and more than 650,000 lines of UniVerse Basic.
