Do you want to get a tablet at bargain price? Dick Smith, an electronics vendor in Australia, is selling Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, once considered to be a serious contender for the iPad, for only A$276.

That's almost a drop of 50 per cent from the original A$550 entry price earlier in January this year. The deal from Dick Smith is quite a bargain for a WiFi only 16GB version of Galaxy Tab 7.7. It also sells the relatively new Google Nexus 7 at the same price.

No reason was given by the retailer why it slashed the price. It may be attributable to the low market share of Samsung. According to data from IDC, the South Korean company, which has an array of Galaxy Tab, only has 9.8% market share. It's pretty low compared to 68.2% of industry leader Apple, which has a single product line, namely the new iPad. In other words, it seems that not much people wants a Galaxy Tab. The retailers may be betting that a drop in price would entice buyers to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Another thing that may compound the shelf movement of Samsung is that a new cooler Android tablet is in town, the Google Nexus 7. Hey, if you're selling the two things at the same price, consumers may want to get the newer tablet in the block.

But if you do choose to get Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, you may want to hurry to retail stores of Dick Smith, as there's no indication until when the deal will be on the table.
