SBS has launched its first iPhone app, The World Game, which will provide fans with up to date information across more than 40 football leagues worldwide.

The World Game iPhone app, which is also compatible on the iPad, has been developed to provide football fans with live scores, results, fixtures and tables so that fans can follow their team's performance where and when they want to, via their iPhone.

Toby Forage, executive producer of online sport at SBS said: "We are so excited that SBS's first move into the app space is with The World Game. Football's popularity in Australia continues to grow so this was the perfect fit.

"Fans want their stats on the go, no matter where they are or what they are doing and this app facilitates that."

Since its launch last week, more than 5,500 people have already downloaded the app and the star rating in the iTunes store is at four out of five.

SBS is already working on additional content to add to the app in the future. SBS will also look at developing the app for the other mobile operating systems, such as Android.

The launch of the World Game app will be supported by a cross platform marketing campaign.

The campaign will include executions across TV, print, radio and online. A 15 second TV spot will be aired on SBS ONE and SBS TWO, as well as in program mentions across its football properties.
