The clock is ticking on its promised January release but HTC still has not committed to an HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update release date. The company still says that the HTC One Android 4.4 update release is still "targeted" for January and this doesn't make HTC One owners confident about it.

Back in November 2013, HTC has made several bold promises with regard to the HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update. The company announced that it will roll out the HTC One Google Play Ed. Update in 15 days while the Developer Ed. Update will be in 30 days and the regular HTC One update will be in 90 days after the Android 4.4 KitKat announcement.

HTC has kept its promises with the Google Edition and Developer Edition both receiving their updates to Android 4.4, while the Google Play Edition is now on Android 4.4.2. January is already halfway through and HTC still has not rolled out the regular HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update nor has committed to any release dates, something that worried and prompted HTC One owners to ask questions.

HTC has made promises that it wasn't able to keep in the past, most recently is the Verizon HTC One Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that was delayed past its initial target date. American carriers can be quite finicky when it comes to Android software update releases.

The company was pressed for answers and HTC President Jason Mackenzie says that they are still targeting the end of January for the release. He still did not provide further information and any specific dates. HTC's Executive Director of Product Management, Mo Versi, has always been forthcoming with update details but has remained silent at this time.

While there is cause for concern, HTC still acts like the software updates are still on track to arrive by the end of January and HTC One owners in the United States can be hopeful that the company will keep its word. HTC is also geared to deploy HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat updates in Canada and Europe before January ends. HTC UK claims that the update is right on track and still scheduled to arrive to HTC One owners before January is over.

Android 4.4 KitKat wil bring the new Sense 5.5 which improves Sense, delivering enhancements to HTC Zoe and BlinkFeed, etc.
