Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) caused major damage in Eastern Samar, Philippines according to reports. Relief worker, Primo Morillo, who is currently in the area said that the residents are doing their best to cope but that supplies in the islands are running out.

Morillo, a representative of the Philippine-Misereor Partnership, said food and water supplies are running out. He also noted that the islands of Guiuan and Homonhon have no means of communication outside of the islands.

Morillo added that there are supplies, albeit not enough, in the island of Homonhon thanks to the relief efforts of the municipality. Dismayed with the Philippine Government, Morillo said in the vernacular, "At the rate that the government is moving, it will take months before communication lines and electricity are restored".

Relatives of some residents of Homonhon and Guiuan posted on Facebook Saturday that they cannot contact their loved ones in the area.

Philippine President on Propaganda Blitz

According to The Daily Tribune, Philippine President Benigno Aquino III is now on a propaganda blitz after Filipinos criticise their government's relief efforts. Ninez Cacho-Olivares of The Daily Tribune writes that Aquino has "unveiled himself" adding that the Philippine President is "selfish, insensitive, uncaring, insincere, petty, divisive and vindictive".

Anderson Cooper's report on what is going on on the ground has roused Philippine officials to address why their response was deemed "slow". Benigno Aquino III is the son of a former Philippine President and a former Senator.

Millions Fend For Themselves

A shocking claim by an aid worker tells MailOnline that there is favouritism on who gets relief packs in the areas affected by super typhoon Haiyan. The aid worker said, "Relief is not being distributed fairly in the Philippines", adding that "the government is prioritizing the areas that vote for them".
