Last 2005 a project called Google X from the now shut down Google Labs. It stayed for one day and disappeared without a trace and with no explanation. It was a project that showcases Google's website with Apple's dock effect.

New York Times has revealed recently that another project with the same name was in development within Google that is so secret that some of the employees don't even know it exists.

But what is it actually? The article has stated that the project members include the best minds they could get in the field of A.I. and robotics. Members are from companies and universities such as Microsoft, Nokia, MIT and Stanford to name a few. They have been said to be going after 100 "shoot-for-the-stars" ideas, what those are, Google isn't saying.

Google has been known for their search technology and their other products and services like Android, Gmail, Google Maps, etc. Most of their technology exists in the internet and software so it was a bit of a surprise when they released a driver-less car in the TED conference earlier this year. It looks like that Google is preparing to release some hardware technology that may permeate Google into the daily lives of everyone in the world even more.

The secret product lab was said to be run as a secretly run CIA facility. Perhaps this is where employees spend one day of the week for their own personal project? Currently many speculations are being made after the New York Times released their article with the New York Times writers suggesting that Google may be developing robots.

"There are a few small, speculative projects happening at any one time, but we are very careful stewards of shareholders' money," Larry Page stated last July to appease shareholders that the projects take very little of the company's money.

The article claimed that there are a total of two labs operating for the project with one in Mountain View for logistics and a secret location for robotics.

Google has neither confirmed nor deny the existence of Google X. Is the whole project a hoax? Or a smokescreen for another big thing Google has in store for everyone? Only Google knows. The whole Google X project has the vibe of Q's lab in the James Bond movies and a hint of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in a sense that the world can't wait to know what the technology company is going to do next.
