“Fresh Off the Boat” makers have collaborated with Six-Word Memoirs as well as Kingswell (Disney Publishing) to create a book titled “Six Words Fresh Off the Boat: Stories of Immigration, Identity, and Coming to America,” which will consist of six-word stories of immigrants about coming to America. The team, along with the cast of the show, has invited people to submit their memoirs.

People can submit their six-word stories on the website mentioned in the tweet. (See the tweet below.) Public can submit the stories until Feb. 15. The book is expected to be published in September.

Six-Word Memoir project creator Larry Smith says that the immigrant stories are a part of people’s person history. “From the stories of recent refugees to those who have been in America for generations, it means so much to me that the ease and simplicity of sharing six-word stories can offer a lens on timely issues of immigration and identity,” he says.

Apart from the public, the book will also feature six-word memoirs of the cast members of “Fresh Off the Boat.” Most of the cast members have already submitted their stories. “My family is why I can fly,” says Hudson Yang (Eddie Huang). “Hot pot free to be me,” says Forrest Wheeler (Emery Huang). “Mom’s recipes get ruined by me,” says Randall Park (Louis Huang). “Designed in Asia assembled in California,” says Ian Chen (Evan Huang). “My American dream has come true,” says Lucille Soong (Grandma Jenny Huang).

Marketing head of 20th Century Fox Television Steven Melnick said the idea of publishing immigrant’s stories in a book existed even before the show aired on TV. He said that the show has received great response from the audience as many people say that the show is highly relatable. “Many volunteered their own 'Fresh Off the Boat' stories, whether their own or those of their parents or grandparents. So we knew that in success, there would be an opportunity to use the show as a catalyst for storytelling, he told NBC News.

“Fresh Off the Boat” is loosely inspired by the life of chef Eddie Huang as well as his book titled “Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir.” It is the first American sitcom that stars an Asian-American family. Currently running its third season, the show airs on Tuesdays at 9PM on ABC in the US. In Australia, the show airs on Mondays at 8:33PM on Eleven. It can also be watched on Tenplay.com.au.
