With the hype generated for the upcoming arcade fighter “Dissidia Final Fantasy,” Square Enix decided to share a new gameplay trailer that not only shows some interesting gameplay mechanics, but also highlights “Final Fantasy 14” character Y’shtola. The adorable mage from the popular online game will be one of the many characters players can choose in the upcoming arcade fighter.

The gameplay trailer first shared by Siliconera showcases the adorable Y’shtola, but also shows that she’ll be a force to be reckoned with when the game comes out. From what can be seen in the video, Y’shtola will be an effective range character that can hit a variety of spells on the opposing team, while also protecting the team she’s in with a giant force field.

It’s clear from the footage below that the arcade brawler will definitely have similar mechanics to its original predecessor. The original “Dissidia” games were originally for the PlayStation Portable, which featured the lead characters from all the “Final Fantasy” games at the time. A sequel was released and featured even more characters, including Laguna from “Final Fantasy VIII” and Lightning from “Final Fantasy XIII.”

One interesting thing to take from the gameplay footage is the team gameplay shown. As fans of the original “Dissidia” know, the team gameplay mechanic is a new one to the series and the Y’shtola footage shows her protecting her teammates with a spell. This implies that there could be more team focused attacks or defense maneuvers when the game gets released.

Unlike the previous “Dissidia” games however, Team Ninja will actually develop the arcade fighter as noted by Push Square. Team Ninja are most well known for the recent success of “Dead or Alive 5,” which not only received praise upon release, but also had two re-releases, one of which was for current-gen consoles.

“Dissidia Final Fantasy” is currently in development for arcades in Japan. Though no plans have been announces for a console version, it should be noted that both “Dissidia” games for the PSP managed to make it to the West and were relatively successful, so it’s possible that “Dissidia Final Fantasy” could do the same.
