Development on BioWare’s next “Mass Effect” game seems to be taking forever, but recent tweets from the developers indicate the game is making good progress. Gamers will be pleased to know combat looks amazing on the new hardware and that the dev team have recently crossed a milestone which allows them to review and tweak completed gameplay.

Chris Wynn, Senior Development Director for Mass Effect issued a tweet noting that the game’s combat systems are making great strides. Wynn said the game’s biotics and weapon effects looked amazing thanks in no small part to the more powerful hardware “Mass Effect 4” is running on.

“Combat is looking pretty great in the latest builds. Biotics plus weapons plus powerful hardware is amazing,” he said.

Wynn has been teasing progress on “Mass Effect 4” for months, but most gamers will wonder when they’ll be able to get their hands on the game. In a series of tweets picked up by GamingBolt, “Mass Effect 4” Producer Michael Gamble stated that the game had just passed a new milestone. Gamble said the finished milestone gave the team an opportunity to play through large parts of the newly completed loop, making adjustments as necessary.

GamingBolt also quotes industry insider and NeoGAF forum member Shinobi602, who states that his sources indicate a 2016 release for the next “Mass Effect.” He goes on to say that a spring release is likely, given the fact that EA has “Battlefield 5” scheduled for fall 2016.

As previously reported, gamers won’t have to worry about save transfers from the previous “Mass Effect” games. Eurogamer reports that “Mass Effect 4” will feature a brand new protagonist and story, with only nods to past adventures. The next “Mass Effect” is also likely to be set in a brand new region of space, and will feature the return of the M35 Mako infantry fighting vehicle. “Mass Effect 4” has officially been in development since 2012 and is set for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
