"Assasin's Creed Unity" releases for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC later this week marking the first occasion where Ubisoft release an Assasin's Creed instalment exclusively for the current generation consoles. Another new instalment, "Assasin's Creed Rogue" is coming to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 simultaneously but will release on PC only by 2015.

"Assasin's Creed Unity" is set in Paris during the French Revolution featuring the lead character, Arno Dorian- son of an assasin; adopted by the templars- coming to terms with his identity. Unity is said to be one of the largest, most expansive Assasin's Creed game made till date. This is fueled by unprecedented density and variety that will take interactivity to a new level and introduce new play styles. "Assasin's Creed Rogue" meanwhile is a story to fit into the events between "Assasin's Creed 3" and "Assasin's Creed 4: Black Flag" and it will focus on the core experience of the game mechanics without introducing many new features.

Both games have departed from their predecessor's multiplayer format. "Unity" offers a four player co-op mode which has received singular focus unlike the previous titles. "Rogue" has no multiplayer feature at all and features a single-player campaign mode only.

Citing the reason for the shift in direction, Ubisoft told Joystiq.com, "With "Assassin's Creed Unity," the pillars of the franchise have evolved thanks to the potential of new generation consoles and with that evolution. Our aim was to have a seamless single-to-multi experience: This is why we are not opposing single player and co-op."

Unity has been delayed by two weeks and scheduled to be released alongside Rogue this week. In their Ubisoft Blog, "Assassin's Creed Unity" senior producer Vincent Pontbriand said making a game from the ground up for new consoles has been a challenge. "This being a fully next-gen game, it requires a lot of work, a lot of production, and a lot of learning," he said. "It's always hard to be precise and to quantify exactly how much work is involved. " and Ubisoft will continue to work on "Assassin's Creed Unity" up until launch day, culminating with a day-one patch that will offer 'even more improvements' to the game.

Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed Rogue" and "Assasin's Creed Unity" will release for their respective consoles on Nov. 13, 2014
