Ouya, the 99.99 USD crowd-funded videogame console for TV is such a hit. It went on sale last Tuesday and sold like hotcakes since then. Significant online sales performance of the Android game console through Amazon and Target was noted by the AFP.

The company confirmed the positive response via Twitter too as they posted the message that read: "Ouya has officially sold out on @amazon US and UK."

The console offers free trials of games spanning a variety of genre including RPGs, arcade classics, puzzlers, platformers, and shooters. There are about 178 games to try with console as of press time, according to the company's website.

The Ouya which runs on NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor comes with a single controller. An extra controller sells at 49.99 USD.

Those who want to purchase a game in the United States can do so via the company's site, Amazon, Best Buy, Game Stop or Target. Other buyers can process their orders thru Amazon Canada, Amazon UK and Game.

If you are not going to buy your Ouya through the abovementioned sites, be prepared to pay more than its advertised price. Auctions on eBay, for instance, offer the console at a higher price tag.

The fund raising campaign for the console was initiated by the funding platform Kickstarter.

Although Ouya played well in terms of sales when it was first introduced in the market, whether or not it will survive the fierce competition dominated by Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, remains to be seen.

It may challenge what the company's chief executive Julie Uhrman refers to as "the big three", the term she used based on an AP report. Still maybe, Ouya might carve a niche of its own by perhaps banking on the games exclusively available on it.

Meanwhile, Sony's PlayStation and Microsoft's Xbox latest iterations are much awaited. Expectations for both are the talk of the town among gamers these days.

How will Ouya fare in the game? Let's wait until later when the others are ready to play.
