Several places around the world have built a reputation for being haunted. However, a few houses top most lists as being filled with more ghosts, monsters and other terrifying anomalies than otheres. Even today, people report seeing mysterious figures and other paranormal activities in these places.

Here are some of the scariest haunted houses in the world.

1. The White House

The seat of American democracy also happens to be one of the most haunted places on earth. According to Oddee.com, the White House is one of the most haunted, featuring several dead spirits of former residents walking the halls and haunting guestrooms. Some of the ghosts of famous people that were reportedly seen include Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, John Adams and Dolly Madison.

2. Edinburgh Castle

For centuries, numerous reports surfaced about the Scottish castle hosting ghost dogs, headless drummers and other spooky beings. Several paranormal investigations have been done at the site with many resulting to hard facts that there are indeed unexplained phenomena occurring in the place.

3. LaLaurie House

The mansion is located in New Orleans and was built during the early 1800s. Based on old tales, Madame LaLaurie was a cruel woman who mutilated her slaves. The house was allegedly set on fire by one slave then sold. The LaLaurie family allegedly left and never returned. The subsequent owners of the house abandoned the house after sightings of ghosts.

4. Amityville House

In a report by Frontdoor.com, the Amityville house is one of the scariest. It used to be owned by the DeFeo family. However, the eldest son Ronald slaughtered six family members. The Lutz family settled in the house after but immediately fled after a few days due to paranormal activity. Old stories say that the house used to be the worshipping ground of a Satanist cult.

5. Myrtles Plantation House

The house was said to have been built at the turn of the 19th century. Through the years, several deaths allegedly happened in the vicinity, due to poisoning, sickness and murder. Witnesses reported that they suddenly found themselves tucked in their beds, finding a grand piano playing on its own, missing jewelry and seeing mysterious handprints, among others.
