$10,000 phone bill smashes South Australian Member of Parliament
A phone bill amounting to $10,000 has hit Russel Wortley, a South Australian Member of Parliament (MP) as a consequence of his son downloading football games into his mobile phone without permission.
According to SmartCompany.com.au, the member of the Upper House told The Age that his phone bills usually sum to about $200, but was knocked for six to see his phone bill had been so high.
He said he cannot believe that people would charge $4,000 for gaming for an hour and it seems to be beyond belief.
He added that people should know that their children or even they could be innocently downloading games which they believe are free, but in the end it costs up to thousands of dollars.
Russel Wortley has used this matter as a chance to call for greater information on how mobile phone bill rates are calculated and charged. He also sent in a complaint to Stephen Conroy, the communications officer, who agreed to speak about the issue with the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association.
