The Xiaomi Redmi 1S has recently been released in many regions outside China, whereas the Motorola Moto E was released in May. Readers who are interested in the budget-friendly Moto E or the Xiaomi Redmi 1S should check out this comparison.

Display, Exterior And Size

The Moto E features a 4.3-inch display bundled with a screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The Xiaomi Redmi 1S, meanwhile, features a relatively bigger 4.7-inch display with 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution. The pixel densities of the Moto E and the Redmi 1S handsets stand at 256 ppi and 312 ppi, respectively.

When it comes to exterior, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S comes with a plastic rear that is marginally glossy. However, the front and the back panels are fingerprint- and smudge-prone. Tech2 points out that the plastic material used in the Xiaomi handset is better-looking than the Moto E's material. The Moto E, on the other hand, is extremely sturdy and comfortable on the hands. The rubber-like plastic back panel provides good grip. It is worth noting that, the Moto E comes with a peculiar waterproof coating. Even though, this coating cannot be compared to the IP67 certified (water resistant) handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2, the phone is water repellent and splash proof.

Speaking of size, the thickness and the weight of the Moto E are 0.48-inch and 142 g respectively, whereas the Redmi 1S is 0.39-inch thick and weighs 158 g.

Hardware, Software And Memory

The Xiaomi Redmi 1S is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz and backed by 1 GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the Moto E is powered by an inferior dual-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 200) Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and the same 1 GB of RAM. Also, the Moto E runs on Android OS v4.4.2 KitKat (upgradable to v4.4.4 KitKat), whereas the Xiaomi Redmi 1S runs on Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean along with MIUI v5.

When it comes to memory, the Xioami handset comes equipped with 8 GB of internal storage, whereas the Moto E settles for 4 GB. However, both the phones support microSD card for expansion up to 32 GB.

Camera And Battery

The Xiaomi Redmi 1S smartphone features a good 8 MP primary unit with LED flash and a 1.6 MP front-facing camera unit. The Moto E, on the other hand, houses a relatively inferior 5 MP rear-facing camera unit with no LED flash, plus there is no front-facing shooter at all. Furthermore, the Xiaomi device features a Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery, while the Moto E comes with a Li-Ion 1980 mAh battery unit.

Misc

1. Both the phones come equipped with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and microUSB support.

2. Also, both the handsets support dual-SIM.

3. While the Motorola handset houses micro-SIM, the Xiaomi handset houses mini-SIM.

Price

The Xiaomi Redmi 1S is priced at INR 5,999 in India that roughly translates to as low as AU$106. The Moto E, on the other hand, is priced at AU$179.95.
