Xiaomi's super-successful Redmi 1S smartphone apparently has a successor in the offing. Notably, the wallet-friendly Xiaomi Redmi 1S has broken sales records time and again, especially in the emerging markets. Based in China, the company first introduced the original version dubbed Hongmi smartphone in its home-country and later, manufactured an international version in the name of Redmi 1S. Looking at the killer sales record, one cannot overlook the fact that, there's no stopping the Xiaomi wave.

According to reports, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S successor has just cleared the TENAA certification, the FCC-equivalent in China. The official name of the handset has not been revealed at this point. However, going by the specifications revealed in TENAA, the upcoming Redmi 1S successor will be different from the original version in a couple of ways. In specific, the capacitive buttons on the screen have reportedly been re-styled. Plus, the camera unit's LED flash and the speaker grill on the rear have been re-positioned, says Phone Arena.

As far as the key specifications go, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S successor will reportedly feature a pocket-friendly 4.7-inch display, complemented by a screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Meaning, the same display specifications of the original handset will be maintained, thanks to the unprecedented demand for this configuration. Under the hood, the device will be powered by an unspecified quad-core processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz, whereas the predecessor is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Cortex-A7 processor. The whole under the hood configuration will be held together by a modest 1 GB of RAM. On the software side, the handset will run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS, while the current-generation device runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS.

Unlike the Redmi 1S, the upcoming device will support LTE connectivity. Moving on to the camera configuration, the phone will sport an 8 MP primary unit, just like the predecessor. Plus, there is a 2 MP front-facing camera for selfies. Speaking of size, the handset will be 9.2 mm thick and will weigh 132 g. Therefore, the successor will be both slimmer and lighter than the original handset, which comes with 9.9 mm thickness and 158 g in weight.

Furthermore, the same 8 GB in-built storage capacity and the support for microSD card will be maintained in the upcoming smartphone. Overall, the device doesn't sound like it went through a complete makeover. Except for the much-required LTE connectivity, Android KitKat support, the obvious size difference and hopefully, a powerful processor, there seem to be no over-the-top change at all. Nonetheless, as promised by the company, the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi 1S successor will indeed be available in a slew of vivid colours, including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black and white.
