Vivo is back in the game with its new X5 Max smartphone. Readers should note that, the Vivo X5 Max is the world's thinnest smartphone. The handset flaunts a slim profile measuring 4.75 mm and this is achieved by housing the thinnest screen of just 1.36 mm.

Apart from breaking the aforesaid record, the handset stands out in the specifications department as well. The Vivo X5 Max features a massive 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, complemented by 1080p screen resolution. Under the hood, the device is powered by a 64-bit, octa-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 615) Cortex-A53 processor. Out of the eight cores, four are clocked at 1.7 GHz and the rest at 1.0 GHz. In addition, these under the hood configurations are held together by a good 2 GB of RAM. On the software side, the X5 Max runs on a skinned version of Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS, alongside Vivo's Funtouch OS 2.0, notes GSM Arena.

When it comes to memory, the handset comes equipped with 16 GB of in-built storage capacity and microSD card support for expansion up to 32 GB. Moreover, this Vivo handset is a Dual-SIM phone. Out of the two SIMs, one employs micro-SIM, while the other supports nano-SIM. And interestingly, the handset uses the SIM slot as the microSD card slot for memory expansion, says GSM Arena.

As far as the camera configuration goes, the smartphone flaunts a 13 MP Sony IMX214 sensor as the rear-facing unit with LED flash. Impressively, Vivo has managed to house the bigger 13 MP unit into the 4.75 mm thin handset. In addition, there is a 5 MP shooter unit at the front for selfies.

On the other hand, the Vivo X5 Max has a rival in the form of Oppo R5, which flaunts a slimmer profile of 3.5 mm. However, the Oppo handset comes with a protruding camera unit to play party-pooper to the otherwise flawless device. Apart from flaunting a slimmer profile with no protrusion of any sort, the X5 Max also sports a 3.5 mm headphone jack, while the Oppo handset doesn't. Reportedly, Vivo has pre-installed a Karaoke app that uses the cool Yamaha YSS-205X chip. Also it is worth noting that, the X5 Max supports Hi-Fi 2.0 from the phone's speaker. Moving on to the pricing details, the X5 Max can be purchased for 2,998 yuan in China, which roughly translates to US$485, AU$582 and 308 GBP. Plus, the Vivo X5 Max release date is set for Dec. 22.
