The Xiaomi Mi 5 release date is currently under the wraps. However, its release has become all the more imminent as Xiaomi has slashed the price of last year’s flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 4 by 17 percent.

According to Xiaomi Today, the Xiaomi Mi 4 will be now available for $200 (AU $280) instead of its older price of $240 (AU $336). The handset is available with the discount price on Xiaomi’s official website. In China, the Xiaomi Mi 4 flagship and its cheaper variant, the Mi 4c are now listed with almost the same retail pricing.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 comes with a 5-inch display that supports full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is powered by the Snapdragon 801 chipset that is coupled with 3 GB of RAM. It comes with internal storage options of 16 GB and 64 GB.

On the rear panel, there is a 13 MP camera along with LED flash and the front panel houses an 8 MP camera. It features a battery of 3,080 mAh capacity.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is the purported successor of the Xiaomi Mi 4. The Mi 5 is one of the most awaited smartphones of this year. Rumours have it that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset. However, since the chipset is going to begin next year, the Xiaomi Mi 5 release date is expected to happen in the first quarter of 2016.

Mobi Picker has reported that the Xiaomi Mi 5 is also likely to release in this year not with Snapdragon 820 chipset onboard but with MediaTek’s Helio X20 chipset that features a deca-core processor. The recent price cut of the Mi 4 also suggest that the Mi 5 release date is soon approaching.

Rumours suggest that the chipset of the Mi 5 flagship will feature 4 GB ofRAM. Other specs of the handset include 5.2-inch Quad HD screen, 16 MP rear camera with OIS, 5 MP selfie camera, 32 GB and 64 GB storage options and a 3,030 mAh battery.
