Xiaomi is expected to launch its flagship Mi 5, the successor of Mi 4 on July 16. According to unconfirmed reports, the Chinese smartphone maker has teased a 16 July event on Chinese social networking site Weibo, hinting at the possible launch of the Mi 5 in China on the said date.

According to a report on India Today, the teaser shared by Xiaomi gives glimpse of the super-slender frame and the aesthetically curved corners of the alleged Mi 5. The alleged Mi 5 is likely to continue with the metal body, just like the Mi 4, however, a unibody design could also be expected.

The smartphone is expected to sport a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, a 3000mAh battery, a 16 MP rear camera and a 13 MP front camera. The Mi 5 is expected to be available with a price tag of approximately 2399 Yuan (about $386) in China, reports Techno Buffalo.

The Xiaomi Mi 5, which has been codenamed ‘Libra’ is expected to feature the fingerprint scanner technology, reports Tech 2. Besides Mi 5, Xiaomi is also reportedly planning to launch the larger variant i.e. the Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus, which is likely to feature a 6-inch 2K display and a nearly bezel-less display. Besides that, a 4 GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage and 16 MP rear camera is also expected.

Xiaomi has reportedly been working on Lollipop-based MIUI 7 user interface along with Android Open Kang Project for the Mi 5, as per the Tech 2 report.

Xiaomi will have to compete with OnePlus in its home country. OnePlus is working towards the launch of its upcoming OnePlus 2. Recently, in an AMA (ask me anything) session conducted by Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus on July 9, the company confirmed that the new smartphone will sport a bigger battery than its predecessor but not a bigger display than the OnePlus One. The OnePlus 2 is set for an official launch on July 27, reports Phonearena.com.
