Games with Gold has always offered Xbox owners another venue to get some of the sought after games on the platform for free. With the introduction of backwards compatibility to the Xbox One, the mechanics for the games’ playability is also changing for the better.

Starting November, Microsoft has announced over at the Xbox Wire that it Xbox One owners will be able to get as many as 10 free Xbox games via the promo for the year. Granted, this requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription as part of the package, but it does mean more games come 2016.

As promised, the backward compatibility feature will allow future and upcoming Xbox 360 will be playable on the Xbox One. This is an advantage on both ends. Xbox 360 users can now choose where to play upcoming games, while Xbox One owners can start expanding their game collection. Playing Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One will allow game saves, add-on, Gamerscore and achievements on top of Xbox One-exclusive features like Windows 10 streaming.

Games with Gold has become even more promising, if only for a value-for-money promo. Xbox Live Gold membership definitely has other perks, including multiplayer gameplay and exclusive discounts on specific deals. But adding this choice of Xbox One play of future Xbox 360 games does sweeten the deal even more.

And based on a new report, the backward compatible games may not be limited to just the Xbox 360. According to IGN, Microsoft is also looking at games from the original Xbox game. Specifically, Xbox head Phil Spencer stated via Twitter that the company is looking at the possibility of the feature, though it is still under investigation at this point.

It does sound promising as an extension of the feature in the future. For now, Microsoft is concerned more with rolling out and ensuring that the backward compatibility with the Xbox 360 for the Xbox One goes off without a hitch.
