Channing Tatum recently teased his involvement in “X-Men: Apocalypse” during a red carpet interview. The actor will portray the role of Gambit and it’s speculated he will appear in the sequel prior to starring in his solo “Gambit” movie in Oct. 7, 2016.

MTV’s Josh Horowitz caught up with Channing Tatum on the red carpet while he was promoting the “Magic Mike” sequel, “Magic Mike XXL.” The actor was asked if he was going to appear in “X-Men: Apocalypse” as Gambit. However, Tatum didn't seem certain if his character will be included in the film when he said, “You know, I don't know if I'm at liberty to say,” he said.

However, in Horowitz’s own terms, Channing Tatum’s response clearly also means “yes.” But the actor jumped in to explain his personal thoughts on the possibility of Gambit appearing in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” "I was about to say, I don't want to introduce Gambit until you can really explain who Gambit is,” he explained.

Slashfilm claimed Tatum’s response may not be a firm denial but it clearly points to the likely chance that Gambit will not be appearing in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” A cameo appearance in the sequel also wouldn’t suffice considering the actor’s interest to explain his character’s story first before being introduced in an ensemble movie.

Channing Tatum has spoken once about his desire to bring Gambit into a solo movie first during a previous interview with MTV. The actor also shared his plans for the character, saying that he wants “to change the 'hero, superhero movie’” story of Gambit, considering that he is not "your typical hero" since he’s also a thief who “walks on the gray.”

However, Movieweb also noted that Channing Tatum’s response also teases what viewers will see of Gambit in terms of background story. Whether the character will appear in “X-Men: Apocalypse” or not, Gambit’s origin will still clearly be explored in the MCU. According to the site, the actor’s statements hinted the possibility that “Gambit” will “be an origin story about the Creole mutant Remy Etienne LeBeau who can mentally create, control and manipulate pure kinetic energy.”
